Phillippa Standeven born in 1985, spent her childhood in Harrogate until achieving her Art foundation. She then moved further afield to London in order to indulge her creative dreams and ambitions. In 2007 she completed her (BA) Fine Art: Painting degree at Camberwell College of Art, The University of the Arts, London. She now lives and works in London.
With her natural curiosity in textures and fabrics Phillippa's work reflects her obvious passion for this sensual and complex subject. Whilst using this traditional subject matter she creates a fresh dimension, manipulating the fabric so that an abstract image is formed, a face or landscape for example. It is this idea of a painting within a painting that drives her. Once completing the layer she then draws into the painting, the finest of paintbrushes loaded, so that the tiny patterning created stands in relief. This transition from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional keeps her focused throughout this time consuming process. Due to this technique she believes lighting is crucial, casting shadows, illuminating the experience.
"I love the visual impact that light gives to my work, it is when the detail is highlighted bringing life to the image, that I know the work is complete."
